75th and Wornall

A devastating fire in 2007 burned the building at 75th and Washington in Waldo to the ground. Now, owner Diane Botwin is bringing the building back with a new, sustainable and environmentally friendly design that continues its mixed-use heritage with the help of Hoffman Cortes and El Dorado architects.

Together, they are incorporating recyclable materials, energy efficient lighting, expansive glass storefronts that allow more natural light that minimizes electricity costs, native grass landscaping, and rain gardens into the rebuilding efforts at 75th and Washington. Construction began in October 2007 and is expected to be completed during summer 2008.

Constructed back in 1923, the building at 75th Street and Waldo is the ultimate example of a mixed-use project in Kansas City. This building housed everything from the headquarters of taxi services to a dinner theatre.
