Chuck Scammell is president of Hoffman Cortes Restoration, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hoffman Cortes, a full-service general contracting company established in 1921 that provides complete commercial construction services across multiple industries throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Hoffman Cortes Restoration specializes in exterior building maintenance, historic restoration and new construction masonry for clients in the public and private sectors. 

Scammell also is part of the three-person Hoffman Cortes executive management team led by Rita Cortes, president and includes Scott Moffitt, vice president and director of operations.  An industry veteran with more than 40 years of restoration and preservation experience, Scammell joined Hoffman Cortes to launch the subsidiary. As its president, he directs its day-to-day operations and business development efforts.

The Kansas City Historic Foundation awarded Scammell the Smithsonian Award in recognition of his outstanding work on the restoration of the Seahorse Fountain. Other historic projects he has worked on include the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Swope Memorial, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Hotel Phillips, the Liberty Memorial, Aladdin Holiday Hotel Inn, Graphic Arts Building, Downtown AMC Theatre, Residences at West Paseo, Saint Luke’s Energy Center and Parking Facility, Shoal Creek, and the Federal Reserve Bank.

An established expert in historic preservation and restoration, Scammell helped organize and served as the keynote speaker at the first Preservation Day seminar for the Kansas City Chapter of the Architectural Institute of America (KC-AIA) and has been a guest speaker at numerous meetings including the annual conference for Sealant Waterproofing Restoration Institute of America (SWRI). He is the author of numerous guest columns for local and professional trade publications.  Scammell is a past president of the Association of Pointer, Caulker and Cleaner Contractors (APCCC) and has served on SWRI’s education and Web site committees and the KC-AIA’s preservation committee. Most recently at the 2007 Historic Kansas City Foundation awards ceremony, four of Scammell’s projects won awards: Blossom House & Girl’s Club, Aladdin Holiday Hotel Inn, Residences at West Paseo, and Hotel Phillips.

Prior to Hoffman Cortes, Scammell served as president of Mid-Co Contractors where he worked closely with Hoffman Cortes Contracting on the historic renovation of a 96-year-old roundhouse located in the Westside Business Park. He is a graduate of Pittsburgh State University.
