Chuck Scammell is senior vice president and director of operations for masonry restoration and new masonry at Hoffman Cortes, a full-service construction management, general contracting, masonry restoration and new masonry construction company established in 1921 that provides complete commercial construction services across multiple industries throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Scammell specializes in exterior building maintenance, historic restoration and new construction masonry for clients in the public and private sectors.
Scammell also is part of the three-person Hoffman Cortes executive management team led by Rita Cortes, president and includes Scott Moffitt, senior vice president and director of operations for construction management and general contracting. An industry veteran with more than 40 years of restoration and preservation experience, Scammell joined Hoffman Cortes to launch the division. As senior vice president, he directs its day-to-day operations and business development efforts.
The Kansas City Historic Foundation awarded Scammell the Smithsonian Award in recognition of his outstanding work on the restoration of the Seahorse Fountain at Meyer and Ward Parkway. Other historic projects he has worked on include the Women’s Leadership Fountain, Blossom House, Quindaro Ruins, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, Swope Memorial, Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Hotel Phillips, the Liberty Memorial, Aladdin Holiday Hotel Inn, Graphic Arts Building, Downtown AMC Mainstreet Theatre, Residences at West Paseo, Saint Luke’s Energy Center and Parking Facility, Shoal Creek, and the Federal Reserve Bank.
Scammell is the immediate past president of the Association of Pointer, Caulker and Cleaner Contractors (APCCC) and currently serves on the education committee and Web site committee for the Sealant Waterproofing Restoration Institute (SWRI). He plays an active role in the Kansas City Chapter of the American Institute of Architecture (AIA), where he currently serves on the preservation committee.
Scammell speaks frequently on topics related to restoration and preservation, including addressing the annual conference for SWRI on restoration and historical tax credits and the Oklahoma Chapter of AIA on historical preservation tax credits, among other speaking engagements. He also organized and served as a keynote speaker at the first Preservation Day seminar for the AIA in May 2003. Scammell has written several articles on restoration and historical tax credits published in The Kansas City Star, Preservation Newsletter and The Applicator, SWRI's national publication.
Scammell is a graduate of Pittsburgh State University.
